Rotonda Communities CERT team members will put up hurricane shutters at homes in the Rotonda area during the 2020 Hurricane Season. Residents who are elderly or otherwise unable to install shutters themselves will be given priority.

Mr. David Burton will be coordinating the hurricane shutter program. He can be reached at 941-662-1318.

Please plan ahead and don’t wait until the last minute to have hurricane shutters put up. The National Hurricane Center forecasts usually provide residents with at least 5 days advance notice of a storm event. Please be sure to monitor your local news and weather outlets and plan accordingly. Last minute requests may not be accomplished as volunteers have their own preparations to make.

A Call to Candidates

It seems hard to believe, but it is almost that time again…candidates gearing up to run for open seats on the Rotonda West Board of Directors.

The Election Committee, made up of Dale Jensen, Chair, Manny Seligmann, Jack Horner, Cheryl Lateer, Maureen McDowell and yours truly, Karen Harvey have been busy revising the election guidelines.

This year the Election Committee will hold two candidate orientation/workshops. They will be held on at June 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. and Thursday, July 16, 2020 2:00 p.m. the meetings will be held at the RWA Community Center.

Another important date to remember is Friday, August 14, 2020 at 12:01 p.m. This is the deadline for submission of Notice of Intent and Candidates’ Information Sheet.The Election Committee will also be meeting that date for a compliance review of the information submitted by the candidates.

On Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. – all candidates will appear at the Community Center for the Candidates Night. This is one of the best opportunities to hear from the candidates, why they want to become a Director, what are their qualifications, and their vision for the future of RWA.

The RWA Annual Meeting is set for Thursday, December 3 at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The new and improved guidelines have now been recorded and are posted in the Elections section of the Rotonda West Association website at Elections.

· Here is a summary of the changes:

· Candidates now must submit information in both written and electronic format

· Candidates will be invited to the August 14th meeting where the Information Sheets will be reviewed and if their document does not comply with the Guidelines, the Candidate will be afforded the opportunity to bring it into compliance

· A photo of the Candidate will now be required to be submitted,

· Explanation of the Rollover question on the ballot

The inaugural issue of What’s Happening in Rotonda West debuted on August 1 and is edited by Connie Smith. The 2-sided publication will provide a monthly snapshot of events and activities at RWA. While the list of events is short right now due to health concerns, we know the number of activities will grow in the months to come. Copies of What’s Happening will be available at the Administrative Office, in the display bin on the footpath walkway outside the Office, at the Community Center and at other locations within the circle.
